21 September – 6 December 2023
McPherson Playhouse
3 Centennial Square, Victoria, BC
viewable during showtimes

Salish Weave is a private collection of contemporary Coast Salish art that weaves together the distinctive art form, designs and styles of established and emerging artists. The collection stems from and mostly resides on the traditional Coast Salish territories of British Columbia.

This unique showcase, Teachings from the Salish Weave Collection, highlights the work of six extraordinary artists: Susan A. Point, Kelly Cannell, Chris Paul, Qwul’thilum Dylan Thomas, lessLIE, and Maynard Johnny Jr.
With a focus on education, the exhibition features informational panels outlining the collection’s mandate, the work on display, and each artist’s biography.

The Victoria Arts Council is excited to collaborate with the Salish Weave Collection’s founders Christiane and George Smyth, to bring this showcase to the McPherson Playhouse. We’d like to express our gratitude to the artists, the Salish Weave Collection, the Salish Weave Fund, and Mark Loria Gallery for supporting this endeavour.

A message from Christiane and George:

The Victoria Arts Council is an organization with which we collaborated in the past to support Salish art and artists. It is with great pleasure that we join the Council to welcome you to the McPherson Playhouse Theatre to view this exhibition of prints of the Salish Weave Collection and learn about the Salish artists who have created them.

We also invite you to visit the Salish Weave Collection website at your leisure.

Enjoy!

George and Christiane
